Celebrating Lunar New Year

January 29, 2025 — The aroma of freshly made dumplings filled the air at Wake Forest University this week as the campus marked the celebration of Lunar New Year. Hosted in collaboration with the Intercultural Center and the Chinese Study Group Committee, the event invited students, faculty, and guests to come together for an interactive and immersive experience in honor of the holiday.
This year’s event, an annual celebration, featured a variety of engaging food stations that offered something for every taste. The standout was the “Make Your Own Dumpling” station, where attendees were guided by skilled chefs and supported by the student organization to create dumplings from scratch, learning the delicate art of filling and folding these traditional treats.
In addition, there were two other stations. The International Grill station offered freshly prepared dumplings, including popular varieties like pork and ginger or edamame and scallion. The Dessert Station featured a selection of sweet treats, such as sesame seed balls and mahua—twisted fried dough sprinkled with cinnamon sugar.
The event not only offered a delicious taste of authentic Chinese cuisine but also provided an opportunity for the Wake Forest community to come together in celebration and deepen their understanding of Lunar New Year traditions. With this year’s success, organizers are already looking forward to continuing the tradition next year, making it an event the campus will eagerly anticipate.
