Making Safety Fun~ Safety First Safety Always!

Today we are taking a moment to celebrate our Director of Operations Robin Day and her efforts this past school year towards making safety fun. In our dining operations, deacon dining has been taking efforts to make sure our staff is staying safe with ourselves and the food we serve. We are raising our safety standards. Each of our serving stations employees have hand washing timers set at every twenty minutes, we are always wearing our hair nets and non slip safety shoes, and we are staying aware of our surroundings.

The kitchen has the potential to be a dangerous place on even the best of days. Our staff are constantly working near open flames and sharp objects. That’s why Robin’s work has been so impactful, it’s not just about abiding to standard safety rules, it’s about making safety memorable and keeping people safe.

In order to make safety a memorable topic, Robin has created an atmosphere where safety is fun. You can often hear Robin singing ‘safety first safety always” or making safety puns to staff as she makes her rounds around The Pit.

“They told me to be extra safe at work… So I bubble wrapped myself and now I’m the employee of the month and a floatation device.”

If you want to remember safety tips at home from Robin, here are the lyrics to her original safety song, “Safety First, Safety Always”

We start the day with a common goal

To keep each other safe and whole

Look out for danger, watch your step,

Together we take every rep.

Safety First, Safety Always,

Watch your hands, watch your feet,

Let’s make sure we all repeat

Leaders lead, we stand as one,

A safer workplace can be won.

Speak up loud, don’t turn away,

A little care goes a long way.

Safety First, Safety Always,

Watch your hands, watch your feet,

Let’s make sure we all repeat

It’s not just rules, it’s how we live,

Protecting all we must give.

One small act, one strong stand,

Together we make safety grand!

So, wear your gear and take it slow,

Think ahead before you go.

With safety strong and standing tall,

We come home safe, one and all.
