Deacon Connect Dinner Highlights Student Feedback as Key to Enhancing Dining Experience
On October 9th, 2024, students gathered in the HTCG ‘Red Room’ at North Dining Hall for a Deacon Connect dinner, where student voices took center stage. The event, designed to foster open dialogue between students and dining services, offered a delicious meal featuring freshly prepared Brasstown Beef burgers, pickled onions, tomato jam, Ashe County sharp cheddar pimento cheese, hand-sliced potato chips, grilled mushrooms, watermelon salad, and Coca-Cola cupcakes.
One of the event’s highlights was the use of Brasstown Beef, a sustainable beef blend that includes mushrooms, which reduces the beef industry’s carbon footprint. This commitment to sustainability, alongside offering high-quality, flavorful meals, is just one way Wake Forest Dining is listening to student concerns and working to enhance the dining program.
Attendees included key campus leaders such as Vice President John Wise, Registered Dietitian Madison Fishler, Harvest Table District Manager Tim Vandermeersch, Director of Operations Robin Day, and Director of Culinary Development Jonathan Burns.
More than just a dinner, the event was a platform for students to share their thoughts and experiences about campus dining. From what’s working well to areas where improvements can be made, the dining team encouraged open, honest feedback. “We hear you” was the central message of the night, as the team emphasized that student feedback directly shapes future dining enhancements.
Wake Forest Dining is committed to continually improving based on student input, and events like Deacon Connect play a key role in that process.
