Harvest Table Building Community Day: Helping Prepare for Spring at Crossnore

April 10, 2025 – Winston-Salem, NC

On Thursday, April 10, Harvest Table Culinary Group teamed up with Wake Forest University’s Campus Kitchen and Crossnore Communities for Children for a full day of hands-on volunteer work aimed at enhancing the local community.

Dozens of volunteers came together at Crossnore’s Winston-Salem campus to contribute their time and talents to a variety of projects focused on revitalization and community support. From painting and gardening to assembling furniture and sharing meals, the day was packed with meaningful work and spirited collaboration.

Volunteers worked diligently to restore and beautify Crossnore’s administration buildings, paint flowerpots and welcome mats, and prepare the gardens for the upcoming spring season. They also assembled metal garden benches for the children, pulled weeds throughout the property, and laid down fresh mulch and pea gravel around trees and walking paths. One of the day’s highlights was building a brand-new wooden garden bench for the campus greenhouse.

To cap off the day, volunteers served a warm community meal to the residents of Crossnore, creating space for connection and celebration.

The event was not only productive but joyful, with volunteers enjoying the opportunity to work outdoors, make a tangible impact, and build lasting memories together. The initiative was organized by Harvest Table’s Senior Controller, Danish Khan, whose leadership and planning were key to the event’s success.

This day of service is a shining example of how partnerships between local organizations and volunteers can help build stronger, more connected communities.
